TIRANA, May 15 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that Albania has stood by Ukraine from the very beginning and will continue to do so.

At a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, addressing journalists’ inquiries about the war in Ukraine, Rama stated, “You are in a country where, since the transition from dictatorship to democracy 35 years ago, no Russian president or prime minister has ever visited, and no official from here has travelled to Russia. We do not long for it, nor do we seek to alter this reality. It is part of a long-standing history tied to our past relations with the former Soviet Union and Russia.”

Rama continued, stating, “We are aware that, although this country has the longest-serving prime minister in NATO, it does not have the power or influence of many other nations to play a major or decisive role.”

“At the same time, we must always remember how fortunate we are to have been born on the continent of enlightenment, in a realm where the aspiration for eternal peace first took shape. Europe has consistently been a project dedicated to fostering peace,” stated Rama.

Prime Minister Rama affirmed, “We will everything in our capacity to guarantee our ability to safeguard our freedom and values, while also remaining steadfast in our pursuit of peace.”

“Sometimes, it may feel profoundly unjust, but as Europeans—and as those who stand with humanity rather than barbarism—we must continue to pursue peace, even with the barbarians,” stated Rama.
