TIRANA, Jan 18 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday rejected media reports claiming that Albania would pay 1 billion euros to participate in the Board of Peace for the Gaza Strip, calling the reports false.

Rama was responding to coverage following an invitation for Albania to join the Board of Peace as a founding member.

The government head dismissed claims that all United Nations member states had been invited to join the board, or that Albania would be required to make a financial contribution of 1 billion euros or accept Palestinian migrants.

“These claims are lies,” Rama said.

He added that the initiative should be seen in the context of Albania’s efforts to strengthen its international standing, rejecting what he described as politically motivated misinformation.

Full statement from Prime Minister Rama:

“The political and media pots are boiling and clattering so loudly that you would think it is not Albania that has been invited to join President Trump’s Peace Board, but rather an enemy of Albania!

All UN member states have been invited to the Board of Peace.

FALSE

Albania will pay 1 billion euros.

FALSE

Palestinians will come to Albania.

FALSE

The truth is much simpler than what is being manufactured-especially in any case where Albania is honored. It is the resentment of ignorance and the anger of malice.

The political and media pots of our parliament are noisy tin cans of the old Albania, while what we are continuing to build with great effort and persistence is a different Albania – dignified internationally and respected worldwide.

As for me personally, the only thing that matters is the trust of the majority of Albanians, who have lifted me and kept me four times at the top of the Albanian state, and the respect of those who lead in Europe and around the world, which I need above all to honor and elevate Albania.

This is an extraordinary moment for Albania. The rage of these pots only proves one thing: the more the dogs bark, the further the caravan moves on.”
