The Ministry said all health structures were operating on full alert, with medical teams deployed nationwide to ensure uninterrupted services, particularly in regions hit by heavy rain and snowfall.

Emergency medical services have been operating around the clock, coordinating patient transport and on-site treatment through the National Medical Emergency Centre, the Institute of Public Health and regional health authorities, the Ministry said.

Most health centres and hospitals continue to work normally, including in Tirana, Durrës and Shkodër, although temporary service reorganisations were introduced in some areas due to access and safety concerns, it added.

In parts of southern and western Albania, including areas near the Vjosa river basin, heavy rainfall disrupted road access, affecting staff mobility and service delivery in some villages, while sporadic power outages were reported. The Ministry said vaccine cold-chain conditions remained under control.

Health services in northern regions including Kukës, Tropojë, Lezhë and Mirditë reported no major problems, while the situation in Elbasan was marked by temporary road difficulties in rural areas, authorities said.

Health Ministry urged citizens to follow official guidance, exercise caution when travelling in affected areas and contact emergency services in case of need, adding that health teams would remain on heightened readiness until conditions normalised.

The Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu said Wednesday that more than 260 foreign visitors have received care, including emergency treatment and specialized health procedures, at the Trauma Hospital from June to August 2024.

Health Minister said that a total of 17 000 patients have received treatment, including 650 surgical procedures and 16 200 health care treatment, during the reviewed period.

“Most recently, a successful surgical procedure was performed on a one-month old infant, who was on holiday in Albania together with her parents. The baby enjoys great health thanks to professionalism of our medical personnel,” Koçiu said.

Meta said only four patients, who haven’t been vaccinated, are currently being treated at the Covid 1 hospital.

According to her, the COVID-19 patients are experiencing moderate symptoms, while 50% of them are seriously ill and are undergoing oxygen therapy.

“Two of the patients are actually being treated under high oxygen therapy,” Meta told reporters.

The hospitalized patients, three from Elbasan and one from Tirana, are 61, 65, 69 and 71 years old respectively. Doctors treating them affirmed that they are seriously ill.
