TIRANA, April 27 /ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Andis Salla, held a meeting on Tuesday with international development partners to discuss ongoing cooperation and concrete steps to further strengthen the agricultural sector.

The meeting was attended by Ritva Heikkinen, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Albania, Iven Schad, Head of German Development Cooperation, and other representatives from international partner organizations.

During the meeting, the commitment to advancing the European integration process for the agricultural sector was reaffirmed.

The Minister emphasized that the opening of Cluster 5, along with progress in Chapters 11, 12, and 13, demonstrate that reforms are being translated into tangible actions on the ground.
“Albania has made significant progress in the EU accession process, with negotiations for Cluster 5 formally opened on November 17, encompassing Chapters 11, 12, and 13. During 2025, we have fulfilled the legal requirements, moved ahead with the alignment of our legal framework with that of the EU, and finalized our negotiating positions for Chapters 11, 12, and 13. Furthermore, we have strengthened institutional coordination and enhanced cooperation with international partners to ensure sustained progress. We are committed to advancing this process with the objective of achieving EU membership by 2030,” stated Minister Salla.
According to the Minister, in addition to reforms and projects, the goal is to promote and establish new development models at the local level and within the local economy. Municipalities, he emphasized, could play an active role in joint entities with regulated private operators, ensuring strong transparency.

The Minister emphasized that the support of partners remains crucial for real investments, strengthening food safety, and enhancing the value chain, with the aim of building a modern, competitive agriculture sector that is prepared for Albania’s accession to the European Union.
