Senior Socialist official noted that the autumn Parliament session largely focused on the 2022 state budget bill and the accompanying fiscal package.

“I believe we all agree that it is the largest proposed state budget in the history of last 30 years, designed to support major infrastructure projects, services to the citizens and businesses and the digitization drive,” Balla said.

The Head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group noted that the state budget bill was returned back to parliament by the President of the Republic, causing delays in adoption of the municipal budgets.

“However, parliament overturned the President’s decree, which means that the state budget will enter into force starting from January 1, 2022,” he added.

Balla added that the parliamentary majority normally didn’t expect the opposition to back the next year’s state budget and fiscal package, due to the natural and traditional divisions between the majority and the opposition.

However – he went on adding – the session has been successful as 31 bills were passed, with 13 of them adopted through consensus of the centre-right opposition, including ratification of agreements with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer and regional accords.
