In context of promotion of events and objects that are worth visiting in Korça, Mayor of Korça Sotiraq Filo proposed to the public images from the house of Korça painter Koço Ristani, which has got transformed into an attraction.

“Located in the heart of one of the historical region of Korça, “Ristani Art and Food” invites you to enjoy traditional foods in the background of the collection of paintings by Korça master Koço Ristani,” wrote Filo in the social media.

The restoration painter Koço Ristani passed away last year. He occupies a special place in the history of the restoration of works of art in Albania. The figure of Koço Ristani is multidimensional, as he was a painter, costume designer, decorator, graphic designer and restorer of medieval works of art.

Ristani was a student of the great masters of Albanian art, Vangjush Mio, Abdurrahim Buza, Kel Kodheli, Sadik Kaceli, Janaq Paço, Sali Shijaku and Muntaz Dhrami. In 1980, Koço Ristani was member of the first group of medieval art restorers in the National Museum of Medieval Art, Korça. /j.p/p.s./

The exhibition contains 45 reproductions of paintings in which the Albanians have widely become characters in focus of the paintings of foreign painters, especially in the early years of the 19th century. After the French Revolution and especially after the victory of the Greek Revolution, a number of artists, writers, historians and archaeologists, but in particular French, English, Italian, German and Swiss painters addressed the Albanian theme. Albanians appeared in their paintings with different profiles and characters: sometimes in fighting positions and sometimes in calm meditation scenes, or free portraits, where each of the painters expressed their originality and pictorial style. In all the images created by the painters of the 19th century, what stands out is a kind of vitality of the traditional Albanian characters and costumes. These characters are not created simply from imagination, but from a direct encounter with these characters.

These paintings are a part of that great creativity of European painters of the 19th century, who, in addition to exotic scenes also gave the drama, tragedy or that little lyricism that could exist in the heavy atmosphere of an imperial occupation. In addition, these painters enabled present-day generations to have the opportunity to look at the Albanian type during that century as a real figure with the drama that he conceived in himself. We would not be able to properly imagine the figures of the suljots without seeing the paintings of Louis Dupré or the paintings of J. L. Gérôme, the embodiment of the war of Marko Boçari in the paintings of Delacroix, the face of the Albanian girl in Corot, etc.

Through the paintings of European painters of the 19th century, there is recreated the life of Albanians in their lands and beyond the borders, in the long journeys of history./p.s./

The news was announced by the Minister of Culture Elva Margariti, who said that “the Gallery’s secrets are now open to everyone, before the National Museum of Fine Arts building undergoes a restoration, reconstruction and rehabilitation project.”

Culture Minister Margariti said few days ago that construction of new National Theatre will begin soon, and together with reconstruction and expansion of the National Gallery of Arts it will create a new culture hub along Tirana’s “Pedonale”, a pedestrian street, which will attract not only Albanian and international artists, but it will also redesign Tirana’s centre.

Artists from the “Plein Air” group participate in this exhibition, as well as other artists who consider the landscape important in their creativity, and especially the landscape of the city of Berat”.

Metaphorically, this exhibition is entitled “1001 windows of Berat”, and highlights both the values ​​of the artists who have brought these creations but also the values ​​of the special and ancient city of Berat.
