TIRANA, July 24/ATA/ MP of the Democratic Party in opposition Oerd Bylykbashi proposed today that the right to vote should be given to all citizens who are outside Albania, regardless of whether or not they have a legal address in the country where they are located.

During the meeting of the Laws Committee, Bylykbashi said that, “The Assembly lost the opportunity to make a reform regarding the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR”.

“A commission dragged on in its efforts without doing anything. The efforts to do something were in vain. There is no electoral reform, the main concerns in the elections were not addressed,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bylykbashi focused on the vote of the Albanian nationals from outside Albania.

“Not just the vote of the Diaspora, but for all those who for an important reason and at a certain time are outside Albania. These can be legal and illegal emigrants. The fact that they have a residence or even a place of residence unrecognized from the state where they live, should not deprive them of the vote. Everyone has the right to vote”, he emphasized.

According to him, “All the persons who are abroad on works reasons also have the right to vote safely”.

“Students and soldiers and those who are for long-term cures have the same right. Voting from outside Albania, including the Diaspora. What we propose, in contrast to 2020, is that these citizens register without the obligation to have a legal address there. Registration will start initially after the approval of this law for every citizen of Albania; they will be registered if they have any register elsewhere. It will not be only the 18,000 people registered until today”, explained Bylykbashi. /m.m/r.e/p.s./
