TIRANA, Nov 7 /ATA/ The coast of Orikum, in Vlora is one of the 14 hotspots, where in the framework of the National Action Plan, work is underway to clean up the area, a process that will continue apace throughout the coastline of Albania in cooperation with the local government as well as with citizens.

PM Edi Rama stopped in this zone to oversee the operation on the ground.

Pollution caused by private entities continues to be a major concern for which Prime Minister Rama stressed that the penalties stipulated by law will be toughened.

“Those who pollute the environment will be held to account. The main responsibility for this situation rests with the main polluters and the main polluters are private entities such as hotels, restaurants, factories, all economic operators that produce waste while exercising their private activity. Those who are active in summer such as businesses will face high penalties, but also individuals who cause pollution will be fined. Beyond the penalty, it is very important to involve the State Police in this large-scale operation because it is the duty of every police officer in every area to be the eye of the state and then of relevant inspectors to do their job. But I am convinced that if we stick to this plan, we will be able to sort this out and make this action irreversible,” Prime Minister said.

“After this cleanup that is being done by all forces together, we need to build the system and the system must be managed by the municipality, whether in Vlora, Himara or Saranda. We are devising a work plan that covers the entire region of Vlora. Next week we will coordinate with other parts of the coast because Kavaja is as much problematic, Durrës as well, especially in areas where the urban part meets the forests, in fact they are under the municipalities. I think that from November until May we will clean up the whole territory in a concentrated way and get ready for the tourist season, “- said Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro. /a.a/sm/
