TIRANA, May 15/ATA/ Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari participated today in the graduation ceremony of 104 students of the Security Academy.

Attending were also Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro and Director General of the State Police Skënder Hita.

Further on, Lamallari stated that present-day Albania has a more modern, more professional police force that is closer to citizens, thanks to investments made in technology, police intelligence, digitalization, modern laboratories and training with international partners.

“The State Police should not be seen simply as a force that guarantees order, but as a public service. The authority of the police is not measured by the fear it creates, but by the trust it builds”, said Lamallari.

The minister of interior also highlighted the technological modernization of the State Police, mentioning the “Smart City Albania” project, the installation of intelligent cameras, body cameras for officers, real-time analysis systems and the strengthening of cyber security structures.

According to him, modernization is not only related to technology, but also to the mentality and way of communicating with citizens. “Citizens do not only want a strong police. They want a fair police”, said the minister.

At the end of his speech, Lamallari called on the new officers to maintain integrity and never forget that respect is earned every day through professionalism, honesty and service to citizens. /gj.m/p.s./

TIRANA, December 10/ATA/ With the entry into force of the new law “On Decorations in the Republic of Albania”, President Bajram Begaj, awarded today the first decorations in his quality as the Orders and Medals Authority.

This ceremony coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Order of Skanderbeg. The president stated that the Order of Skanderbeg should be held as a testament to show that Albania is built by people with deeds and that public honor is a state recognition, an evaluation of merit, not a reward.

The president noted that, together with the Eagle Order and the Academic Order, these three orders constitute the “trinity of state honor”, representing the three fundamental pillars of national identity: the flag, virtue and knowledge.

President Begaj emphasized that the second century of the Order of Skanderbeg should be the century of honest and impartial evaluation, based on clear criteria and a fair process, so that the decorations fully regain the weight and respect they deserve in the eyes of citizens.

Addressing the people who received the decoration, the president expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Republic of Albania for their sacrifice, responsibility, work, dedication and integrity, emphasizing that each name called out at this ceremony represents an important chapter of our common history and an inspiring example for the generations to come, especially on the eve of membership in our “common European home”.

In conclusion, President Begaj wished them further success and reiterated the belief that Albania is built by people with deeds, while the public honoring should always remain an expression of appreciation of merit and not a formal reward. e.xh/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, Jan 3 /ATA/ – Special Anticorruption and Anticrime Appeal Court ruled Friday that the Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha should report to authorities twice a month, rejecting the prosecutor’s request to reinstate a previous house arrest ruling.

The decision was made by judge Engert Pëllumbi following an appeal by the Special Anticorruption and Anticrime Prosecution Structure (SPAK) that sought to overturn a first instance court ruling on Berisha’s release on November 27, 2024.

The Special Appeal Court ordered that Berisha reports to judicial police officer Adelajda Metaj twice a month, namely on the first and third Monday of every month.

Berisha may file an appeal with the High Court within the next 45 days.

Former prime minister and opposition leader Berisha had been under house arrest for nearly a year, accused of passive corruption linked to the controversial privatization of the Partizani sports complex.

Prosecutors accuse Berisha of using his position as former government head to push through legislation benefiting five families, including his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi.

TIRANA, August 8/ATA/ The new changes to the Order of Doctors, which were approved by normative act on August 1 at the government meeting, have been published in the Official Gazette.

The changes in the Doctors’ Order aim to regulate the activity of doctors who want to work simultaneously in public and non-public hospitals, but without affecting the professional activity of the former.

In the new Order of Doctors, it is specified that a doctor cannot work in private hospitals or clinics more than 30% of the monthly hours and he should not ask patients who have come for treatment to the public health institution to go to the non-public health institution where he practices his profession.

Some of the disciplinary measures that can be taken against the doctor start from suspensions, permanent revocation of the license, fines from 100,000 Lekë to 1 million Lekë, which will be judged by the disciplinary commissions that are set up by the Doctor’s Order and the commissions of appeal.

The removal of the license may be temporarily, 6 months, or permanently for repeated mistakes.

The changes in the “Order of Doctors” define the conditions and procedures that a doctor in a public health institution can practice in a non-public health institution.

Specifically, a member of the Order of Doctors, who wants to practice the profession of a doctor in a non-public health institution, must make a request to the head of the public health institution where he is employed.

The head of the institution evaluates: the load of hours, which the doctor exercises in the public health institution; service coverage by other medical personnel in the public health institution; the possibility of conflict of interest.

The Ministry responsible for health publishes the data of this doctor in a public electronic register. /k.s/a.f/p.s./

TIRANA, May 21 /ATA/ –By I. Vata/ – Albania’s armed forces will soon be equipped with American-made portable anti-tank missile systems “Javelin”, Defence Minister Niko Peleshi confirmed to reporters on Saturday, adding that the purchase of the advanced anti-tank weapon system is part of the modernization of the country’s army.

“It is in the framework of the army’s modernization drive to enhance our defence capabilities and meet Albania’s targets as NATO member. The anti-tank missile system is being manufactured by the Lockheed Martin Corporation, the world’s largest aerospace, arms, defence, information security, and technology corporation. We have ordered this weapons system as part of our efforts to strengthen, modernize and boost the country’s defence and security. This is not that the country faces a tangible imminent threat. Albania is a NATO Member and has tackled its national security issue and enjoys protection under the Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, according to which means that an attack against one Ally is considered as an attack against all Allies,” Peleshi said.

Defence Minister also announced that Albania will order other purchases and will receive donations from the country’s strategic partner, the United States of America, or other NATO partners.

Peleshi also affirmed that Albania will back membership bids submitted by Sweden and Finland.

“We are a small NATO ally, but we will always be aligned with our strategic partners, the United States that we support when it comes to the developments within NATO. NATO supports the open doors policy and Sweden and Finland are both two sovereign and independent countries with high political, legal and military standards,” the Minister of Defence said.

TIRANA, November 26 /ATA/ Speaker of the Assembly Lindita Nikolla delivered a greeting message to the 33rd session of the Regional Assembly of Francophonie for Europe, which took place today, in the plenary hall of the Albanian Parliament building.

The session was organized by the Albanian Parliament and the Francophonie Regional Assembly for Europe.

Attending the session was also Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj and Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Megi Fino.

Nikolla underlined that, “The International Organization of La Francophonie is one of the most prestigious organizations in the world today with a reach on all continents.

“In our time, the Huntingtonian borders among seven or eight civilizations: Chinese, Japanese, Hindu, Islamic, Orthodox, Western, American, and perhaps African, sometimes tend to become more impassable and sometimes digest or become more conventional. This is due to the tendency of each of the civilizations to expand its influence in the face of pressure from other civilizations. Francophonie, being one of the cultural communities that gives and takes with every civilization today is a powerful shock absorber of mitigating the clashes between them. The Parliamentary dimension of the Francophonie, the Parliamentary Assembly, gives this organization added value, joining the efforts for dialogue between cultures and civilizations and a contribution of lawmakers from all five continents, to guarantee peace and harmony among nations. Therefore, Albania’s presence in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie is an opportunity to increase its contribution to culture, security and peace. Therefore, the Albanian Parliament did its best to organize this session of the Francophonie Regional Assembly “, she said

During the opening ceremony of the session, there was handed over the title “The Great Knight of the Order of the Pleiades of Francophonie and Dialogue between Cultures”, awarded by the Organization of the Francophonie to our world-famous writer Ismail Kadare. Helena Kadare, the wife of the writer Ismail Kadare received the title./r.e/p.s./
