TIRANA, Jan 22 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama told opposition lawmakers on Thursday that a vote in favour of ratifying Albania’s accession to the Board of Peace would see him represent the country as a member of the body at the White House.

Speaking during a heated parliamentary debate, the government head dismissed opposition claims that he would face legal action in the United States, saying the vote would instead confirm his role in the new international initiative.

“Today you will vote for the reality that I will not be summoned or arrested in the United States, but will go to the White House as a member of the Board of Peace,” Rama said.

Rama accused the opposition of spreading false narratives in recent months, including claims that U.S. authorities would take action against him, and mocked what he described as repeated failed predictions.

He said the opposition had an opportunity to claim a political victory by supporting the agreement, arguing that Albania’s inclusion in the Board of Peace reflected growing international recognition of the country’s role.

Rama also rejected allegations that intermediaries had been paid to secure Albania’s participation in the initiative, urging critics to submit any claims to the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK).

Parliament is debating a draft law ratifying Albania’s accession to the Charter of the Board of Peace, an initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
