TIRANA, March 15 /ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, is on an official visit to Belgrade to guarantee smooth functioning of food markets in our region.

Minister Krifca and Serbian Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic have confirmed the opening of the market and the free movement of wheat and maize between Serbia and Albania.

Under the “Open Balkan” agreement, despite the disruption of other international markets , wheat and maize from Serbia will move freely to the Albanian market and consumer.

At a meeting with Minister Nedimovic in Belgrade, we had the opportunity to discuss once again the
“Open Balkan” agreement under the current circumstances and to ensure that this agreement is viable. Contracts already concluded for the import and export of various products, including corn or maize, will continue to be implemented,” said Krifca.

The Minister added that, “we assured each other of a well-understood institutional cooperation and coordination and it is very important for Albanian companies to be able to continue their business in wheat and maize imports. This is an example of how the ‘Open Balkan’ agreement provide facilities even in challenging times.”

The meeting between the two ministers to guarantee viability of the “Open Balkan” agreement, especially for the free trade of staples, takes place at a difficult time for the markets which have been disrupted by the war in Ukraine.
