Out of 60 offices that currently operate in service delivery, Veliaj said that 40 of them will be phased out and only the necessary services will remain as they cannot be offered online, such as celebrations, oaths, etc.

“We will use every day, until May 1, to communicate this new platform for closure of physical counters in the municipality of Tirana, which are time consuming for people. Many of the services will go online. I want each of you to communicate in the area where you serve as a member of the city council all these services, which they can get from home at just one click away,” Veliaj said.

Veliaj also underlined the fact that there will be no cutbacks in the service offices, as the staff have been trained to provide online services.

“There are services that are impossible to be delivered online, such as wedding celebrations, where the couple and two witnesses must be present, and the exchange of promises must be administered by the mayor or the mayor of the administrative unit. Also, the oath of foreign citizens who are granted Albanian citizenship cannot be taken online because the person must physically pledge allegiance before the mayor to the Constitution of Albania. “But, birth certificate, marriage certificate, family certificate, certificates that are already part of the e-Albania database, can be easily obtained online,” he said.
