TIRANA, April 7 /ATA/ The People’s Ombudsman, Endrit Shabani, also President of the Mediterranean Ombudsmen Organization (AOM), conducted an official visit to Kosovo, where he was received in a high-level meeting by the Speaker of the Assembly and Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu.

The discussions focused on the protection of fundamental freedoms and the safeguarding of the rights of Albanians throughout the region.

Shabani underscored the imperative of adopting a coordinated and proactive approach to effectively address the prevailing human rights challenges in both countries.

During the meeting, in his capacity as President of the Mediterranean Ombudsmen Organization (AOM), Endrit Shabani, requested institutional support from the Assembly of Kosovo for the further strengthening of the Ombudsman Institution of Kosovo. He emphasized that a strong and independent mechanism for the protection of human rights is indispensable to the effective functioning of the rule of law and a democratic system of governance.

The visit of Shabani serves to further strengthen strategic interinstitutional cooperation between Tirana and Pristina. His agenda in Pristina continues with a series of high-level bilateral meetings, including engagements with the Ombudsman of Kosovo, Naim Qelaj, as well as the President of the Constitutional Court, Nexhmi Rexhepi.
