The new cabinet decided in its first meeting on Saturday that Distrie Krasniqi dhe Nora Gjakova, who both won gold for judo in 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will join the Armed Forces.

Commenting on the decision, Prime Minister Edi Rama underlined that the two Olympic champions have accomplished an incredible success in the international sports arena.

“In the meantime, the two have expressed desire to join the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania and I would like to add that together with the Defence Minister we are working to create a special Armed Forces unit comprising sports champions, who deserved to earn a life-long special status, just like it is the case with their peers in many other countries around the world. The two Olympic champions will win this special status by including them in the Albanian army,” Rama said.
