During the visit, Spahiu reviewed the services provided at the facility, which operates under the State Social Service and offers residents medical and social care, physiotherapy, dental services and regular health check-ups.

She stressed the importance of working with dental care providers to assess residents’ individual needs, including dentures, fillings and other necessary treatments.

Spahiu also highlighted the need for concrete action to support older people living alone without family assistance, saying social services must ensure they receive the care they need.

The minister noted that demand for social support remained high and covered a wide range of needs, underscoring the importance of finding practical solutions and strengthening community-based services.

Alongside residential care, she said, alternative forms of support should be developed for older people who need assistance but can remain in their own homes, ensuring continued care for the most vulnerable.

The Shkodra nursing home has provided residential care since 1994. It was renovated in 2018 to improve living conditions and modernise its facilities for older residents.
