TIRANA, January 26/ATA/ Speaker of the Israeli Knesset Amir Ohana addressed the Albanian Parliament through a video message, on occasion of the Special Session commemorating the victims of the Holocaust. He drew attention to the fact that in Yad-Vashem – Israel’s national museum dedicated to commemoration of the Holocaust; there are more than 70 Albanians who risked their lives to protect the Jews.

In his video message he stated that, “We, in Israel, are aware and positively assess the Albanian people. In the most difficult circumstances and risking their lives, Albanians acted in support of the Jews during the Holocaust and saved many of them from the oppressive Nazi regime. Israel will be grateful forever to the Albanian people for their courage in face of such an evil”.

“In many ways, Albania is a pioneer and leader in the Balkans when it comes to promoting a safe memory of the Holocaust and fighting anti-Semitism. Of course, there is a lot of work to be done, but we are witnessing a great increase in anti-Semitism around the world and in Europe in particular”, concluded Ohana. /gj.m/p.s./
