In a social media post, the Assembly highlighted the figure of Vendim Kapaj—holding the title “Grand Master”—who has dedicated over 50 years to the music and sounds of Albanian tradition.

“With the shepherd’s flute and a double-bored flute in his hands, he has preserved a part of the soul of Albanian music,” the Assembly’s post reads.

The Assembly also noted Kapaj’s rare technique of playing the traditional shepherd’s flute using his teeth.

According to the Assembly, the sound of this ancient Albanian tradition has crossed borders to feature in the soundtrack of Christopher Nolan’s new film Odyssey, alongside Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson. “From Albanian tradition to a major global cinema production, this is the power of keeping heritage alive—preserved, passed down and admired worldwide,” the post reads. /p.s./
