TIRANA, November 28/ATA/ On November 28, 1912, Albania proclaimed its Independence. After nearly five centuries of the Ottoman Empire occupation, this historical act marked the country’s independence, paving the way for the building of an independent state and national institutions, including monetary and banking structures.

After the independence, one of the primary concerns of the Albanian government headed by Ismail Qemal Bey Vlora was the establishment of the Bank, which would develop its activity in accordance with the norms of the national banks of European countries.

In commemoration of this glorious day, the Bank of Albania issued a series of numismatic coins with the theme “100th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence”, which contain symbols of this historical event: the portrait of Ismail Qemali, the Declaration of Independence, the double-headed eagle of the flag raised on November 28, 1912, and two joined hands, a symbol of the Albanian League of 1878. The Bank of Albania said that the coins are available for sale at the Museum Shop of the Bank of Albania. /a.f/p.s./
