TIRANA, June 10 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama in an interview with the Albanian Public Broadcaster on developments at the annual Summit of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Thessaloniki, said that this is a meeting of leaders, which generally focuses on current events. ”

“This was a summit of an initiative which is chaired in relays for many years. Greece is chairing the initiative and at the end there is a meeting of leaders, which generally focuses on current events. Today we have focused on challenging situation, the emergency triggered by the war in Ukraine, the repercussions on the economy, the short and medium term perspective in both these aspects and of course the European Union’s relations with the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia. There was a discussion, of course, on the future European Council and the deadlock due to Bulgaria’s veto,” Rama said.

Asked about the statements of Prime Minister Mitsotakis, regarding the swift integration of the Western Balkans, especially Albania and North Macedonia, Prime Minister Rama said that “despite any stage, bilateral relations with Greece have not been at their best, yet even when it comes to integration and the progress of accession process, Greece has always held a leading position in the table of European Council. I have not heard the statement of the Greek Prime Minister to which you are referring, but of course he has spoken about it in the meeting, but I am not at all surprised, on the contrary, it is a natural thing that Greece has always done.”

“The issue of North Macedonia is related to Bulgaria’s domestic policy, which means that it is one of those issues that are always more tricky than they seem and, moreover, are related to the interests of domestic politics, much more than the essence of the issues themselves, “Rama said.
