In the speech she delivered on this occasion, Spiropali appreciated that Noli was the first representative of the common people in the Albanian political arena.

Spiropali emphasized that, “Noli, along with other dreamers like Luigj Gurakuqi, are the founders of the modern Albanian left-wing.”

According to Spiropali, “The history of the Albanian left wing does not start with the installation of the communist dictatorship, but it was a tragic disconnection within the geopolitical logic of the time”.

“He certainly did not eradicate feudalism; he could not make a radical agrarian and administrative reform; he could not establish democracy, but his premature existence in the Albanian political and public scene was more similar to that of a star whose light we see years and years later,” she said.

Spiropali emphasized that, “Noli proved with work and product that he was the greatest, the brightest of all”.

“Hermit Noli, like all the great people of Skanderbeg’s land, lived in restrained circumstances, lived badly, sometimes simply survived and suffered. But, thanks to the colossal contribution he made, he was not forgotten, remained and is remembered, honored. Minister of State for Relations with the Parliament Elisa Spiropali reminded today the words of Father Liolin, who, according to her, “loved both Albania of its roots and America where he was born”.

“Referring to F. Noli, his spiritual father, Father Liolin asserted that ‘Noli used the bishop’s hat for religious matters, but also the Vatra hat for the national issue.’ These are the lessons that Father Liolin materialized with the passion of the Albanian who did not know how to separate the love for God from that for Albania”, she said.

According to Spiropali, destiny wanted many Albanian religious missionaries, apart from the primary mission of preaching, to deal also with politics due to the urgent need that the Albanian people had when under the dictatorship.
