During the meeting, Nikolla said that Albania regards freedom of the press as a pillar of democracy.

“Parliament is committed to fully guarantee freedom of the press. We also remain willing to cooperate in ensuring the safety of journalists, as well as access to reliable information, through a free, independent, pluralistic and diversified press, applying international standards,” said Nikolla.

Ribeiro congratulated Nikolla on her election as Speaker of Parliament and asserted the OSCE’s willingness to co-operate in improving Albanian legislation on the media in line with the Venice Commission’s recommendations, EU and OSCE standards , as well as by harmonizing public need, legitimacy and proportionality through a comprehensive process.
