TIRANA, September 8/ATA/ Chairman of the National Council of Albanians in Montenegro Faik Nika stated today that Albanians in Montenegro constitute 5% of the total population.

In his speech at the panel on the topic: “Albanians in the region – common European identity: Strengthening regional voices on the path to the EU”, which was held as part of the 3-day conference of Albanian ambassadors around the world that began today in Tirana, Nika emphasized that Albanians in Montenegro played a key role in the declaration of independence of Montenegro, as Albanian factors supported this independence, believing that an independent Montenegro separated from Serbia would have greater opportunities for integration into the European Union.

Despite the commitment of Albanians, Nika noted that there have been occasional setbacks in the Euro-Atlantic integration process of Montenegro because there are other factors there that do not support it and are currently part of the state’s leading structures.

He also stressed the significance of cooperation with Albanian diplomacy, underlining that the Albanian Embassy in Montenegro has helped in opening the Albanian Consulate in Ulcinj, and financing various projects to help Albanians in this country.

He also stressed the significance of supporting young Albanians in Montenegro for education in Tirana or Prishtina.

He highlighted the importance of creating conditions for the free movement of goods and citizens between Albania and Montenegro.

“At this moment, where the strategic objectives of Albania and Montenegro are integration into the European family, we must work in parallel and integrate with each other, whether through education, new border points, etc”, stated Nika. Nika also spoke about the need for support for Albania and Kosovo, so that the ongoing problems that occur can be addressed. /j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, July 22/ATA/- Mark Nika and Rajmonda Nika, the uncle and wife of the late Aleks Nika, who was killed in the protest of January 21, 2011, have appeared today at the SPAK.

After three hours of testimony, Rajmonda Nika told reporters after leaving SPAK that: “I provided some explanations and some new facts”.

Asked about an audio recording that they claim to be in possession, Rajmonda Nika said that they will hand it over at a later time.

Meanwhile, Mark Nika demands that SPAK investigates who gave the order to open fire on the protesters.

“SPAK is out of politics and I am convinced that it will fully clarify the matter. Arta Hoxha has the tape. We will give it to SPAK. I don’t want to go into details, but we want the prosecution to ask and find out who gave the order for the use of weapons. The investigation should focus even on who deleted the evidence. The commanders of those who opened fire must be found because those who opened fire are the soldiers. It was assassination in cooperation”, said Mark Nika.

SPAK registered on July 15 the criminal proceedings for the “January 21” file.

It happened after the High Court, at the request of the family members of Aleks Nika, decided that SPAK should investigate this case.

Aleks Nika’s family members requested the opening of the investigation all the way to Strasbourg, and it was the European Court of Human Rights that stated that the investigation should be more complete.

After registering the case, SPAK decided to interrogate the two Nika’s relatives on the reasons and facts that support their request for the investigation to be carried out by SPAK. /p.s./
