TIRANA, Oct 8 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama welcomed New York City Mayor Eric Adams to the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday for official talks.

In a joint press statement following the meeting, Prime Minister Rama highlighted the main topics discussed, emphasizing the commitment to promote the establishment of a direct flight route between Albania and New York.

Rama highlighted the strong ties that New York City Mayor Eric Adams has with the Albanian community there, expressing confidence that the establishment of a direct flight route would encourage more Albanians to travel.

“We discussed the initiative you want to accelerate regarding ongoing talks with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration about a direct flight from New York, which would be exceptional. It would bring significant benefits to airlines, given that Albanians travel frequently and would be more inclined to visit the U.S. if a direct flight were available,” Rama said.

The Prime Minister highlighted Mayor Adams’ pivotal role in securing multiple direct flight connections between New York and various countries.

Rama referred to Adams as a longstanding friend and noted that he has been fortunate to know him through his deep connections with the Albanian community in New York.

“Following multiple previous commitments, New York City Mayor Adams has finally visited Albania to see in person a place he’s often heard about from his Albanian friends and from me. The visit also provided a chance to discuss potential cooperation in tourism. Since he has a keen interest in technology, he is also very eager to meet with Diella,” Rama said. /j.p/sm/
