Five new educational buildings have already been completed in Sukth, with the Vadardhë school marking the sixth such facility to be built.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Friday shared images from the construction site, where work is continuing at speed to ensure modern conditions for students and teaching staff.

The government head said that once completed, the school will feature contemporary facilities, including laboratories, classrooms, a library, a gymnasium and a sports field, providing dignified and modern learning conditions for both students and teachers.

The project is being financed by the Durrës municipality and is considered important for the local community of students, parents and educators, as it will include both a school and a kindergarten.

The new facility will offer modern standards and conditions for 485 school pupils and 87 kindergarten children.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Friday shared images from the construction site, saying the school would become part of a growing network of model schools in Kamza.

“The construction of the ‘Sulejman Elezi’ high school in Laknas continues and it will accommodate more than 800 students in dignified conditions,” Rama said.

The school is designed as a community facility, featuring common areas as well as sports, cultural and artistic spaces intended to serve both students and residents of the surrounding area.

At the start of the 2025–2026 school year, 30 new and rehabilitated schools opened across the country, equipped with 340 smart laboratories.

A further 42 school construction projects are currently under way nationwide and are scheduled for completion under the 2026 state budget.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Friday shared images of the upgraded school on social media, describing it as a model institution now equipped with modern classrooms, smart and science labs, a library, recreational areas, sports grounds, and a new gym.

“Thanks to the investment by the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Municipality of Shkodër, the school now offers top standards for around 800 students and teachers,” Rama wrote.

The former deteriorating building – which lacked heating and gym facilities and operated in double shifts – has been entirely rebuilt to contemporary standards.

The Ministry has allocated EUR 7 million for school infrastructure in the Shkodër region alone.

“Construction work continues on the new ‘Sulejman Elezi’ high school in Laknas, which will welcome 600 students starting as of September. The school will feature modern classrooms, a library, green spaces, and sports facilities, adding to the growing network of model schools in Kamza Municipality,” Rama wrote on social media, accompanying his post with a video from the construction site.

The school is part of a broader national initiative to modernize educational infrastructure across Albania, aiming to provide contemporary learning conditions and foster student development. The facility will include high-standard amenities such as science laboratories, spaces for cultural and sports activities, as well as outdoor green areas for recreation.

Minister of Education and Sports Ogerta Manastirliu and Kamza Mayor Rakip Suli inspected the site a day ago, reviewing progress on the project.

During the inspection, Education Minister underlined that the school is designed to serve not only as a learning institution but also as a community hub, offering cultural, artistic, and sports spaces accessible to both students and residents of the area.

She also announced two additional upcoming education infrastructure projects to be implemented in Kamza, outlining the national scope of ongoing investments, emphasizing teacher support and quality improvements in education.

The “Sulejman Elezi” high school is funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through the KfW Development Bank.

The newly reconstructed school is part of a larger investment program designed to upgrade educational infrastructure across the country. During the visit, the government head noted that “Demokracia” school was the 38th modern educational facility to be built in Kamze, which considered a symbol of post-destruction revival thanks to the persistence and hard work of Mayor Rakip Suli and the continued government support.

The “Demokracia” school in Valias has opened its doors to over 700 pupils and teachers in a new modern facility that was rebuilt from scratch on a site covering 4,400 square meters and in line with the highest European standards,” PM Rama said.

“The new school is one of 38 educational facilities that have been built and rebuilt in Kamze Municipality. Work will kick off on construction of 40 more schools, gyms and sport grounds in 2024 and 2025, whereas 100 more new schools will be built throughout Albania under the post-earthquake reconstruction programme and through support from the international partners,” the Education Minister Manastirliu said in her remarks.

The new school premises include the staff room, the library, laboratories and classrooms, as well as the reconstructed sport grounds.

More than 60 new schools are being constructed and many more educational facilities are being rehabilitated throughout the country through Ministry of Education budget funds, local government and international partners.

Around 11,600 students and schoolchildren will now attend safer, modern and more decent school premises across the country.
