The coastal village of Ksamil, a premier, highly popular beach destination on the Albanian Riviera, renowned for white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, reachable islands, and one of the country’s most sought-after destinations, has seen a surge in visitor numbers in recent years, driving investments to upgrade tourism infrastructure and services.

The road project includes a new road segment with panoramic sidewalks and dedicated bicycle lanes, stretching from Ksamil to the junction leading to Pulëbardha Beach.

A photojournalist from the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) visited the site and documented progress on the project with parts of the road being already complete.

The investment is expected to be finalised ahead of the upcoming summer season, improving traffic flow and providing safer, more organised access for both visitors and local residents.

Often dubbed the “Maldives of Europe” for its white-sand beaches and clear waters, Ksamil attracts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists each year.

Improved infrastructure and services, combined with the area’s natural beauty and cultural assets, are expected to further boost its appeal and support local economic development.

Located between the coastal city of Saranda and Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Ksamil remains a top choice for international visitors, offering a mix of nature, history and leisure.

The new segment links several rural communities in the Korça region to nearby urban centers and traverses areas of natural beauty, which authorities hope will attract visitors and stimulate the local economy.

“The new road opens up a scenic route and offers a fresh perspective for nature-based tourism in the region,” Rama said in a post on social media, alongside photos of the completed infrastructure.

Officials say the improved access is also expected to support agricultural development and boost investment in agribusiness and agritourism in the surrounding villages.

Prime Minister Rama inspected the ongoing work on construction of the 7-km road.

“Once these whole inland and mountainous areas become part of Albania’s tourist destinations and attractions, one will really know tourist Albania and development of this industry. These areas are a paradise,” PM Rama said.

The road design has taken into account the geological and environmental studies and in collaboration with the Bylis Archaeological Park representatives in order to avoid any negative effects on the cultural and archaeological heritage.

According to the government head, the newly constructed road will open up fresh opportunities for tourism and the area’s economic development.

“Good morning and via these images of a beautiful area in Lezhe, where the new agri-tourist road between Kallmet and Ungrej will create new opportunities for economic and social development, I would like to wish everyone a peaceful Sunday,” the Premier wrote on the social media.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared Friday a gallery of photographs showing ongoing works on construction of the new rural road linking the villages of Perlat, Lura and Arras, saying construction of this road segment is set to complete by next summer.

“The new road connects the regions of Mirdite, Lura and Peshkopi,” PM Rama noted.

The government head said that the infrastructure investment will have important impact on household economy of local farmers and it will also provide tourists and travellers access to the national parks of Korab and Lura, revealing stunning natural beauties.

Lura is one of the main tourist destinations in Diber with its stone houses with wooden fences, according to the Alpine tradition.

Lura is one of the most beautiful gems of Albanian nature and it has been selected by the government as one of Albania’s future agribusiness villages under its 100 Villages program.

The Lura National Park is a national park in northeastern Albania, spanning an area of 12.8 km2 (4.9 sq. mi), encompassing as well the eastern section of Kunora e Lurës.
