Speaking at the 20th meeting of the EU–Albania Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee in Tirana, Gonzato said the Albanian government had set itself an “extremely ambitious agenda” for European integration.

“This year’s meeting takes place at a decisive moment in Albania’s path towards EU membership,” he said. “Following the May elections, there is now a new parliament and a new government that has set an ambitious agenda for accession.”

Gonzato noted that EU membership “remains a shared national objective” and enjoys broad cross-party support, reflecting the aspiration of more than 90% of Albanian citizens.

“To meet these expectations, constructive contributions from all parliamentary forces are essential,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring that independent judicial institutions strengthen their internal procedures and secure adequate resources to maintain integrity, oversight and capacity in line with EU re-evaluation standards.
