The agreement was signed recently in Italy by the Mayor of Gjirokaster Flamur Golemi and the Head of commune of Nardò Giuseppe Mellone.

Gjirokaster Mayor said that the sister cities agreement will help the two cities to jointly apply for the European Union-funded projects in best interest of citizens. Such joint commitments with our Italian friends, who are certainly more experienced on local government issues,  will help us to qualify for the EU-funded projects on culture heritage management,” Golemi said.

During visit to Nardò, the Mayor of the southern Albanian city also held a meeting with Professor Fabio Pollice, the Rector of University of Salento.
