TIRANA, May 20 /ATA/ Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, announced on Wednesday that the initial phase of restorative and structural reinforcement works at the National History Museum is approaching completion. This initiative is part of the EU4Culture programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNOPS in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports.

The Minister shared images from the construction site of the National History Museum on social media.

With the façade restoration now complete and the protective scaffolding removed, the building’s refurbished elevation is fully revealed. Work continues on the completion of the first phase of structural reinforcement and conservation interventions.

Elenita Roshi, Director of the National History Museum, explained that the restoration commenced with the “Albania” mosaic, followed by the comprehensive restoration and structural reinforcement of the museum’s façade.

“What is currently underway entails the reinforcement and building of a highly resilient structural system, designed to withstand seismic activity. This intervention enhances both the architectural integrity and longevity of the National History Museum,” stated Roshi, while presenting images from the iconography pavilion, where the museum’s icons remain carefully crated for protection. She further noted that the icons have been secured since the kickoff of the works in 2024 and will remain in protective storage until the completion of the first phase of structural and conservation interventions.
