TIRANA, Dec 26 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected the excavation works in the Murriz tunnel, where on Tuesday the two sides of this challenging construction site were joined.

Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Prime Minister Rama was brought up-to-speed with some of the challenges encountered in this construction site.

Rama said that this is the long-awaited moment of a prolonged effort due to the extremely unfavorable geology, which has led to the postponement of Arbri Road’s delivery.

“The light at the end of the tunnel, after both endpoints of the most challenging sites of large public works meet, is the long-awaited moment of an effort prolonged by the extremely unfavorable geology, which has led to the postponement of Arbri Road’s delivery,” he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that “this tunnel kicked off in 2018 and will be completed in 2024.”

“While the tunnel of Llogora, which is set to be completed in June 2024, started much later than this one, but given a much more favorable geology in Llogora, the same company progresses at about 20m per day, while in Murriz it progresses at approx. 2 meters per day. However, the worst is over and today’s light at the end of the tunnel is a strong reason to believe that 2024 will also mark the completion of this daunting work,” said Rama.
