TIRANA, Dec 10 /ATA/ Parliament Speaker, Elisa Spiropali, reacted on Tuesday following the release of the Venice Commission’s opinion.

“I believe it is now clear to everyone that our stance regarding the process of handling the mandate of deputy Olta Xhaçka was neither political nor partisan, but a constitutional stance related to the inviolable sovereignty of the Parliament!” said Spiropali in her response.

“The Constitutional Court has requested that deputies vote in a certain way, and we have interpreted this not just as an interference in the independence of Parliament, but primarily as an unenforceable decision due to the impossibility of a rule that imposes how a deputy should vote!” emphasized Spiropali.
“Today, all the accusations, defamatory statements, and false propaganda directed at this stand were addressed. As Speaker of Parliament, I feel relieved and would like to thank the Venice Commission for reviewing my request promptly and with the utmost seriousness,” said Spiropali.
Spiropali expressed the conviction that this just opinion will serve all parties and institutions as a basis for reflection in finding the correct solutions to issues related to the incompatibility of a deputy’s mandate in the future.
