TIRANA, Dec 7 /ATA/ Gjallica Peak in Kukës, rising 2,489 meters above sea level and now a popular tourist destination, has captured the interest of mountaineering enthusiasts in early December.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on social media footage of mountaineers ascending the snow-covered Gjallica Mountain.

With the early winter snowfall, mountainous areas have become top destinations for tourists seeking adventure. The weather provides ideal conditions for exploration and mountain climbing, showcasing the diverse alpine terrain that Albania has to offer.

Gjallica is the highest mountain in the Kukës region, standing at 2,489 meters above sea level. It is part of the Korab mountain range and extends along its northeastern edge, between the Kukës basin to the northwest and the Shishtavec plateau to the southeast.

To the northeast, the Vanat Gorge separates it from Mount Koritnik, while to the southwest, the Bicaj Canyon—also known as “Shkalle e Keqe,” through which the Shejë Stream flows—divides it from Mount Kolesjan.

The summit forms a sharp ridge that drops steeply over the Vanat Gorge, while the slopes are quite steep, creating prominent tectonic cliffs in the limestone of their lower sections.
