TIRANA, March 19 /ATA/ Following today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of State for Local Government, Ervin Demo, announced the approval of nine new decisions concerning the designation of priority areas under the “Mountain Package,” representing a significant step toward the sustainable development of the nation’s mountain economy.

With the adoption of these decisions, the number of municipalities designating priority development areas has risen to 25, bringing the total to 205 priority areas across the territory of the Republic of Albania. This achievement establishes a clear and structured framework for strategic economic development in the nation’s mountainous regions.

The municipalities for which the corresponding decisions were adopted today include Berat, Vlorë, Kavajë, Durrës, Dimal, Mirditë, Himarë, Librazhd, and Rrogozhinë.

Minister Demo emphasized that “municipalities that have already approved priority areas are currently in the process of publishing all requests, which have undergone thorough verification by the municipalities themselves.”
According to him, the 45-day deadlines are currently running, and upon their expiration, “the municipal councils, and the municipalities themselves will grant approvals, regarding the successful applications.”

“The Mountain Package is advancing at a significant pace, as priority areas have already been earmarked in more than half of the municipalities. In the coming weeks, we will continue to earmark priority areas for the remaining municipalities that are still under review,” Minister Demo stated.

Regarding the Special Commission on Territorial Reform, Minister Demo stressed that it is crucial to adopt the proper approach to ensure stronger municipalities in the future.

He expressed full confidence that the commission will fulfill its mandate and added that “the majority holds the responsibility to provide solutions and to advance the reform.”

“We are also fully committed to implementing a reform that includes all parties and to guaranteeing that the Special Commission successfully accomplishes this goal,” he stated.
