The queues at the entrance to Kosovo during the evenings are also created by the return of citizens of Kosovo and the countries of the region from the Albanian coast.

In July, according to the police, more than 800,000 people entered Albania from this border point alone.

Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted the figures today through a video message from Dhermiu, where he spends the summer holidays over the last 10 years.

PM Rama shared the data of the entries into Albania only from the “Mother Teresa” airport and from the border crossing point of Morini.

“Last evening, I received the data on the entries of passengers into Albania, only via the ‘Mother Teresa’ airport and at the border crossing point of Morini, and I found it necessary to share them with you. Almost 1,200,000 passengers entered the airport, over 350,000 more than last year. In fact, this July there was another record broken as the entries in a single day hit 44 thousand. The airport has managed to operate up to 252 flights in a 24-hour cycle, an unimaginable volume until a few years ago,” said Rama.

Rama emphasized that, “Fortunately, neither those who speak with great accuracy can say anything about the airport figures, nor those who claim that Albania is empty, both of Albanians now, and of tourists, because Tirana’s airport is moving at the top of the European classification for the relative growth compared with previous years”.

“While in absolute value, Tirana has displaced Belgrade airport to second place, which historically has been the first and absolute in this region”, he emphasized.

Rama also drew attention to the numbers of entries to Morini border crossing point where the electronic highway toll register shows that this year 175 thousand vehicles entered more than last year, while in July 3 thousand more than last July

“So even that malicious theory spread this season with other theories about Kosovo Albanians who have abandoned Albania, is not relevant”, he said.

On the other hand, the prime minister emphasized that, “The figures and revenues from customs and taxes are also increasing compared to previous years, precisely because there is a significant increase in consumers compared to the past”.

“More people are staying here in Albania. It is surprising how some of us find it impossible to enjoy Albania’s success. However, thanks to the facts that part is decreasing compared to Albania that is growing and getting stronger.
