TIRANA, April 2 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama held on Friday in Morava, Berat a meeting with farmers, agro-processors and collectors of agricultural products of the area, where he got acquainted with the sectors where they operate and achievements in their work in terms of production and especially agricultural exports “Made in Albania. ”

During this meeting, the farmers said that the modern fruit and vegetable collection point in Morava, which was set up with the support of ARDA, has guaranteed the increase of production and exports.
Fatosi, a farmer in this area, said that he has been operating in the export of agricultural products for several years.

He said that “from year to year the share of agricultural exports has increased and last year which was the most difficult year due to the pandemic, exports recorded a 40% increase.”

“There are 1500 NIPT-registered farmers from whom we buy agricultural products with the number of employees per season going up to 100 people who are mainly women and girls in areas around Lushnja, Fier,” – said Fatosi.
While the representative of one of the pioneer companies operating in the agricultural sector in this area, said that he has started the activity since 1992, initially trading seedlings and agricultural inputs.

The representative of a company that deals with the collection and export of medicinal plants said that, “I have been operating in the market since 1993. Initially we exported 100 tons, 600 tons, while today we export 2,600 tons of medicinal plants to the European market and the US. We have started exporting medicinal plants to South Korea as well,” he said, while informing the prime minister that he has signed employment contracts with 3,000 farmers from Delvina to Koplik to buy medicinal plants for export.”

“Last year I invested about 70 million ALL, with the support of the IPARD program, in setting up a line for drying fruits, mainly apples, a product which I intend to export. Through this investment we have hired 300 more farmers. Specifically in Skrapar area we have finalized a project to buy 300 tons of apples, stimulating the employment of farmers but also expanding the dried fruit export market. Our company is expanding the export of medicinal plants on a year to year basis by 10-15%” – he said.

In the region of Berat, the green house area has more than doubled resulting in twofold increase of agricultural production and a fivefold increase of exports.
