TIRANA, Sept 22 /ATA/ A fire that broke out near the Archaeological Park of Apollonia is being brought under control following the intervention of firefighting units and an aerial operation. Tourism, Culture and Sport Minister Blendi Gonxhja visited the site to oversee the situation and the efforts to extinguish the blaze.

Gonxhja stressed that protecting the Archaeological Park of Apollonia, as an important cultural heritage asset, is a priority, expressing gratitude to all the structures working on the ground.

The fire‑fighting operation near the Archaeological Park of Apollonia is ongoing, with reinforced units deployed on the ground and in the air. Tourism, Culture and Sport Minister Blendi Gonxhja was present on site to oversee the situation and the efforts to extinguish the blaze.

Gonxhja praised the intervention of the fire‑fighting forces and the aerial support, while underlining the importance of swift reactions from citizens in such cases. ‘It is essential and very important that we preserve. Just as our forebears preserved, so must we,’ Gonxhja said.”

The minister extended particular thanks to Andrea Rama, a visitor from Lushnja who happened to notice the fire near the park and assisted in the efforts to put it out.

“‘A demonstration of courage and civic responsibility,’ was how Gonxhja described his contribution, emphasising that the care and protection of cultural heritage is a shared responsibility.”

The intervention continues on the ground with the aim of containing and fully extinguishing the fire, as well as safeguarding the archaeological area.
