In his Easter message, Monsignor Dodaj said that with the Christ’s resurrection, he hoped that Albania can garner strength to defeat what he termed as “a demographic winter, not only for the hemorrhage caused by emigration, but also for the significant decline in the birth rates.”

“In this Easter celebration, let us follow Jesus, freeing ourselves from evil by disarming our hands, eyes and hearts from all prejudice, hatred and division and especially from the idea of responding to evil with evil. Hoping that Resurrection becomes synonymous with hope for Albania to become an opportunity and no longer a utopia for the hearts of all young people and young families and also for the marginalized social categories,” Monsignor Dodaj said.

Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after His burial following His crucifixion.

President Begaj extended his best wishes on the most important Christian and cultural holidays for the Catholic and Orthodox believers.

“I wholeheartedly wish may this day brings light, hope and goodness to everyone, in these difficult times. This special day, the symbolic day of Christ’s birth, awakens hope and joy in our hearts, brings us back to human and religious values, family and faith,” the President said.

During the meeting, President Begaj recalled the meeting with Pope Francis a few days ago in the Vatican.

“Pope Francis is a great friend of Albanians, so I extended him an invitation to visit Tirana again. His messages for a peaceful world where we all should be more united are certainly sent throughout the world, as well as in Albania. Yesterday’s appeal by Holy Father asking people to do their best to restore hope, I think comes strongly to all Christian believers and not only,” the head of state said.

At the end of the meeting, President Begaj wished merry Christmas to Monsignor Dodaj and the Albanian faithful.
