TIRANA, May 8 /ATA/ The “St. Kolli” monastery in Mesopotamia, Saranda, is one of the monuments with special architectural style and a must-see destination.

Described as “the gem of our cultural heritage and Byzantine world architecture,” this monastery has attracted the first tourists on the eve of this year’s tourist season.

The first “swallows” of tourism arrive at the cultural heritage monuments.

“This weekend, about 50 German tourists visited the” St. Kolli Monastery “in Mesopotamia, which welcomes everyone to its neat and tidy premises,” according to sources from the National Culture Department in Saranda.
German tourists gain insights about the history and architectural values of this monastery.

The Monastery of Mesopotamia is one of the rare monuments in the south of Albania, where culture and history overlap, where the symbols engraved on the walls, are one more reason to visit this monastery in the district of Saranda, very close to the ancient city of Finiq.

The monastery houses the church of St. Nicholas, built in the Byzantine architecture style. The ruins of the surrounding walls covering an area of about 100 m² are controlled by 9 rectangular towers. The perimeter walls have been built earlier than the church.

The monastery rooms have been built later. This is one of the largest and oldest churches of the Byzantine period that preserves original values.
