Moisiu: Kosovo freedom won through bloodshed, KLA leaders are innocent

TIRANA, Oct 17 /ATA/ Former President of Albania, Alfred Moisiu, speaking from the podium set up in Skanderbeg Square during the protest in support of the former KLA leaders, stated that this gathering in the heart of Tirana is taking place to defend our national dignity.
“We are here to speak out against the injustice being done to the best sons of Kosovo and the Albanian nation — the KLA fighters who fought for the freedom of their homeland,” Moisiu declared.
The former President also shared his personal impressions from a 2022 visit to the Hague Detention Center, where he met with Thaçi, Krasniqi, Veseli, and Selimi.
“Meeting with these men, I saw that they were not intimidated. They stood firm, composed, and fully prepared to sacrifice themselves in order to clear the name of the KLA from the unjust accusations being pushed by those who do not wish the Albanian people well,” said Moisiu.
“They did not commit crimes — they carried out the noblest mission in our history: the liberation of Kosovo and the protection of their people,” Moisiu affirmed.
“I am confident that justice will prevail and stand with the four KLA leaders, who have been imprisoned without concrete evidence and on accusations manufactured by Serbian-Russian circles,” he concluded.
Moisiu emphasized that the KLA’s war was supported by NATO, the United States, and key Western allies. In this context, he noted that official U.S. witnesses testifying at The Hague are presenting evidence that reinforces the innocence of the KLA leaders.
“Albanians have a long history of resistance — from the era of Skanderbeg, through World War II, to the fight of the KLA,” Moisiu concluded. “This is not the moment for silence, but for standing firm in defense of our rights. Kosovo’s freedom wasn’t handed to us — it was won through bloodshed, sacrifice, and determination. We must stay united to protect the destiny of our nation.”
