TIRANA, Aug. 9 /ATA/ – Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Serbia was important, but rejected any comparison between Kosovo’s independence and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Serbia is important. Dialogue is always welcome, particularly when it creates space to address difficult issues with clarity, responsibility and sensitivity,” the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Ministry reaffirmed Albania’s firm support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and European future, while maintaining the same support for Kosovo’s sovereignty, independence and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

“There should be no misunderstanding on this point: any attempt to draw a parallel or create an equation between Kosovo and any other international situation is wrong, opportunistic and profoundly misleading,” the Ministry said.

It said Kosovo’s case is rooted in its own historical, political and legal circumstances, citing a 2010 opinion by the International Court of Justice that Kosovo’s declaration of independence did not violate international law.

“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an entirely different matter. It constitutes a grave violation of the U.N. Charter and international law, as well as a flagrant breach of the rules-based international order,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

Foreign Ministry underlined a peaceful, stable and European Western Balkans required recognition of the “reality and irreversibility” of Kosovo’s independence, which it said had contributed to regional stability.

At the same time, the Ministry said Serbia and Kosovo share a European future and that normalising relations between them, ultimately leading to mutual recognition, would benefit both sides.

“Normalisation would not weaken Serbia. On the contrary, it would help close one of the most painful chapters in the recent history of our region and pave the way for genuine reconciliation, good-neighbourly relations and lasting peace,” the Ministry said.

Foreign Ministry also welcomed Zelenskyy ‘s visit as advancing Ukraine’s interests and said any step that helped Serbia move further away from Russia’s malign influence and closer to Europe was positive.

“Every engagement is also an opportunity to advance a fundamental understanding: the Western Balkans must move forward, not backward,” the Ministry said.

The statement came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed during a visit to Belgrade a day ago that Ukraine’s policy on the non-recognition of Kosovo remains unchanged.

TIRANA, June 21 /ATA/ – The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs on Sunday condemned the removal and desecration of the Israeli flag from the Israeli Embassy in Tirana by masked protesters during a demonstration on Saturday evening.

In a statement, the Ministry said the incident had no connection to freedom of expression, the legitimate right to peaceful protest or the democratic and European values upheld by Albania.

“Such acts are manifestations of hatred, intolerance and incitement, and are entirely incompatible with the principles of respect and coexistence that form the foundation of Albanian society,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry described the incident as a “shameful act” that contradicts Albania’s long-standing traditions of hospitality, harmony and respect for others.

“These actions do not represent Albania or the Albanian people,” the statement said. “They represent only those who seek to provoke, divide and spread hatred while deliberately abusing fundamental rights and freedoms.”

The Ministry reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions and their symbols in accordance with international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

It also expressed solidarity with the Israeli Embassy, stressing that violence, intimidation and hate speech “have no place in a democratic society.”

TIRANA, April 5 /ATA/ – The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs on Sunday warned that a website providing information on entry visas is not authorised to offer such services, following ongoing online monitoring.

The Ministry said in a statement it had identified a webpage containing materials similar to those published on its official visa platform. The Ministry clarified the site, available at https://evisia-al.com/albaniavisaenquirylive/, mimics official content related to entry visa procedures for foreign nationals.

Authorities stressed that the website is not an official platform and has not been authorised by Albanian state institutions to provide information or services related to visa applications.

The ministry reiterated that the only official portal for Albanian electronic visa applications is e-visa.al.

It urged citizens and applicants to exercise caution and rely exclusively on official sources to avoid potential fraud or misuse.

Cybersecurity bodies and law enforcement authorities are taking steps to block any illicit activity and to identify and prosecute those responsible in accordance with applicable legislation, the Ministry said.

TIRANA, March 4 /ATA/ – Albania has strongly condemned the Iranian attack on the Embassy of the United States in Riyadh, calling it an unacceptable breach of international law and diplomatic norms.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said such acts not only endanger lives but also escalate tensions and heighten the risk of further destabilisation and uncontrolled escalation in an already fragile region.

“Acts targeting diplomatic missions and their personnel are a clear violation of international law and the fundamental principles that protect diplomatic missions worldwide,” the Ministry said.

TIRANA, March 3 /ATA/ – The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday that the security situation in the Middle East remains unstable and unpredictable following recent military escalation in the region.

The Ministry strongly advised Albanian citizens to avoid any travel to countries in the region until further notice.

Albanian nationals currently in the area were urged to exercise maximum caution and vigilance and to prioritise departure through commercial flights while they remain operational.

The Ministry advised citizens to follow developments through reliable media and official information channels, comply at all times with instructions from local authorities, and keep travel documents and communication devices readily available.

In case of need, citizens were instructed to contact Albania’s diplomatic and consular missions in the region and act in accordance with their guidance.

The ministry warned that further deterioration in the security situation could lead to broader airspace closures beyond the countries affected so far, with flights potentially cancelled without prior notice. Travellers were advised to contact airlines directly for updates.

Albanian authorities said they are closely monitoring developments and will provide real-time updates on any new changes.

TIRANA, Feb 12 /ATA/ – The Albanian Parliament on Thursday approved a joint declaration supporting the innocence of the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs welcomed the move, stressing that “the Parliament of Albania spoke with one voice in defense of the truth about Kosovo’s liberation struggle and the dignity of those who bore that historic burden. This was a voice not only from the legislative hall but from the collective memory of a nation that knows what it means to fight for freedom.”

In a statement to the media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its unwavering commitment to advancing this position in every international forum, with dignity, dedication, and an unshakeable respect for historical truth.

The Ministry further stated, “The Kosovo Liberation Army’s struggle was not a dark chapter, but a beacon of light in a dark period for the Albanian nation as a whole.”

“It was a fight for survival, for dignity, and for the fundamental right of a people to live freely on their own land. This truth is not a matter of political interpretation; it is part of our collective conscience,” the MoFA said.

The Ministry also underscored that “in this difficult time for the leaders of that struggle and their families, Albania stands in full solidarity with Kosovo, confident that justice must be impartial, fair, and aligned with historical truth.”

“The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs will take all necessary diplomatic steps to defend this truth, counter any attempts to equate victim and aggressor, and ensure that the voices of Albania and Kosovo are heard clearly on every international platform. Kosovo’s freedom is a shared chapter in our history, and its dignity is the dignity of the entire Albanian nation,” the statement concluded.

TIRANA, Feb 5 /ATA/ – Albania will host the Corridor VIII Economic Forum on Feb. 18, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

The Ministry underlined that Europe is entering a decisive phase, where connectivity, sustainability and regional integration are becoming key pillars of security and economic development.

In this context, the Pan-European Corridor VIII, which links the Adriatic and Black Sea, is emerging as one of the region’s most strategic infrastructure and connectivity projects.

As part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), the corridor connects Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria, extending towards Italy and Romania. It is designed to strengthen regional connectivity, enhance collective security and contribute to east-west resilience in Europe.

The forum in Tirana will bring together public authorities, European institutions, international financial organisations and business representatives to accelerate investment, deepen regional cooperation and translate infrastructure projects into tangible economic benefits for citizens and companies.

The advancement of Corridor VIII is expected to support sustainable economic growth, create new trade opportunities and strengthen European integration in the region. Albania reaffirmed its commitment to close cooperation with regional and European partners to make the corridor a driver of integration, sustainable development and shared prosperity.
