TIRANA, Aug 1 /ATSH/ – Speaker of Parliament Elisa Spiropali commemorated Dom Ndre Mjeda, a prominent figure of Albania’s National Renaissance, on the anniversary of his passing on August 1, 1937.

In a message shared on social media, Spiropali described Mjeda as a brilliant contributor to Albanian culture and language, whose work added “strength, beauty, richness, and dignity” to the national identity.

“The legacy of Ndre Mjeda is a cornerstone in building our national identity,” Spiropali said.

“He was a voice that awakened the suppressed conscience of Albanians, a rare defender of our culture and language. As a teacher, poet, translator, clergyman, and patriot, Mjeda served his nation with a mind enlightened by knowledge and a heart inspired by ideals of liberty and the Albanian language.”

A key participant in the Congress of Manastir (1908), Mjeda was part of the commission that standardized the Albanian alphabet.

Spiropali noted that Mjeda’s legacy lives on through his lyrical and patriotic poetry, quoting one of his best-known verses from “Gjuha Shqype” (The Albanian Language).

TIRANA, June 18/ATA/ A 26-years old from Mjeda village in Vau i Dejës has started a special venture, the “Butterfly Farm”.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media a view of Marko Prendi’s farm.

“Marko Prendi, the 26-year old from Mjeda village, in Vau i Dejës has set up a unique venture, “Butterfly Farm”, the first of its kind in Albania and in the Balkans”, wrote Rama.

PM Rama also wrote that, “Prendi, graduated in Environmental Biology, has decided not to leave the country, but has been able to combine perfectly well his profession with the business he has started up, growing 1500 butterflies inside a fairy garden, which he aims to develop further into a modern destination for tourism, education and scientific research”.

According to biologists, in our country there are 205 kinds of butterflies and the most beautiful of them is “Danaus chrysippus” or as they call it the plain tiger or African monarch and is found mainly in Karavasta area.

Butterflies are therapy for people. For children, they are medicine and a stimulus for consciousness in mental development. Like bees, they are responsible for the continuity of life on earth. Thanks to the pollination of flowers, they achieve fruiting and the reproduction of plants. /k.s/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, August 17/ATA/ The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodra invited today the citizens and tourists to visit this weekend the Church of Kukël and the house of Don Ndre Mjeda, a unique complex located in the village of Kukël, 30 minutes away from the city of Shkodra.

The complex, the Church and the house, built by the poet by himself in the neoclassical style survived the time of communism, becoming one of the unique centers of historical and cultural tourism in Albania.

Built in 1906, Mjeda’s house was transformed into a museum-house where there are exhibited the poet’s personal belongings, photographic materials, academic writings, books and many of his objects. The two-story house has been transformed into an exhibition, where among the most important items is the poet’s writing desk, over 100 years old, where he wrote the most beautiful works in Albanian.

Since 2012, “Ndre Mjeda” Museum Center in Kukël holds the status of Category I Cultural Monument.
