Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja expressed his condolences on the passing away of one of the most important figures in Albanian cinema.

In a reaction in the social media, Gonxhja wrote that, “Piro Milkani was a beloved figure, an extraordinary artist, a man who put breath into our cinema and gave meaning to entire generations with his art and wisdom.”

“His films have stood the test of time, such as, “Happy Couple,” and “The Lady from the City,” and have become part of our cultural identity. More than a director, he was a polymath artist. He was a man who always shared his knowledge and love for film with humility and passion,” Gonxhja emphasized.

Further on, Gonxhja wrote that, “Friends and colleagues remember him as a living encyclopedia of Albania’s Film-studios; a friend who never got tired of telling, sharing, remembering. Thank you, master, for all your heritage. My deepest condolences to the Milkani family, friends and the entire artistic community.”

Milkani was one of the first filmmakers of Albanian cinema, producing films that remain etched to our memories and hearts. His works have become part of our cultural identity and are proof of talent and dedication to art./k.s/r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, January 24 /ATA/ Director Piro Milkani promoted in Prague his book of memories entitled “Unbelievable, but true”. The promotion event was held in one of the most symbolic premises of the Czech capital, in the “Vaclav Havel” bookstore.

The book “Unbelievable, but true” was translated into Czech by Albanianologist Přemysl Vinš, under the support of the National Book and Reading Center.

An evening of confessions and memories brought together well-known figures of Czech and Albanian culture, such as the actress Barbora Štěpánová (protagonist in the film “The Sadness of Mrs. Schneider”), the producer Jana Tomsova, writers and readers.

In a post by the National Book and Reading Center in the social media, there were singled out some lines from filmmaker and poet Petrit Ruka dedicated to Piro Milkani: “If his long life as an artist (like the life of every person) is a river, Milkani has been sitting on his bank, sieve in hand washing away all the sand of the shore to find some gold nuggets, similar to the old researchers of gold in Alaska, as described by Jack London. This time, he is not the director, nor the script-writer. On the contrary, his life is like that, and Milkani has only shot those episodes that life has dictated him, the memory of a lifetime.”/p.s./
