TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/ The Parliamentary Committee for Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Rights approved with 13 votes in favor, including the vote of the former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu, and 3 against, the amendments to the law on “On military career in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania. ”

During the session, the opposition MPs engaged in a heated debate. The chairman of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, said this draft law encourages the leaders of the Armed Forces to sign the alienation of the army’s properties.

“We will vote against this law, because it does not assure those who have built an honest career that they will receive what they deserve. The only criterion for a career in the Armed Forces has been the signing of some property alienation to the advantage of oligarchs. We have seen what happened, the ranks and positions were taken by those who signed the properties, you promoted them to the rank of generals and you even appointed some of them to the presidency. So, this law draft is passed for this purpose,” Bardhi said.

In response to Bardhi’s comments, Socialist Party MP Xhemal Qefalia said that this is an important draft law for national security.

“It is a great pity you will not vote a draft law, which is so important for the Armed Forces. Under the current circumstances, many countries are changing the legal framework. For national security issues, this committee and all the committees should have been on the same page. You should not prejudge and politicize anything that comes from the majority. This is an important law for national security,” Qefalia said.
