Second contingent of Military Police departs for Sinai, part of multinational mission

TIRANA, August 26/ATA/ The second contingent of Military Police departed today to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission in Sinai, Egypt.

Through a press release, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that, “The international security is an important element in Albania’s military mission”.

“The Military Police has the capacity to help our international partners as well, to whom we stand side by side with our troops and specialized people”, the press release reads.

The Ministry of Defense appreciated that this is an important mission that includes a unit of three Military Police officers, who will contribute for 12 months to fulfill their duties within the MFO.

“We wish our officers to successfully fulfill this noble mission and we hope for their safe return to their homeland”, concluded the press release. /m.m/p.s./

Peleshi: Albania, first Balkan country in MFO mission

TIRANA, August 21 /ATA/ Albania is the first Balkan country to become part of the “Multinational Force & Observers” mission.

Defense Minister Niko Peleshi appreciated today that, “The MFO mission is very important to ensure implementation of the Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel”.

“Therefore, in this historical journey, we are confident that our Military Police officers, with their excellent skills, will positively affect regional stability and help prevent violations of the terms of this treaty,” he emphasized.

Peleshi expressed the determination of the Albanian Armed Forces to perform its duties with dedication and high professionalism.

The origins of the MFO lie in Annex I of the 1979 Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel, in which the parties undertook to ask the UN to provide a force and observers to oversee the implementation of this treaty.

Article II of Annex I to the Treaty of Peace establishes four security zones, three in the Sinai in Egypt and one in Israel along the international border. Limitations on military forces and equipment within each zone are stipulated in Annex I to the Treaty. /m.m/p.s./

TIRANA, June 29 /ATA/ – A unit of the Albanian Military Police will join for the first time the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, the deployment of Albania’s Military Police unit marks the first time a Balkan country has contributed forces to this mission.

“Congratulations to Albania for deploying its Military Police Unit to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO). This deployment marks the first time a Balkan country has contributed forces to this mission. The MFO is a trilateral mission involving the U.S., Israel, Egypt, and many international partners to support the implementation of the security provisions of the Egyptian-Israeli Treaty of Peace. MFO employs its best efforts to prevent any violation of the treaty’s terms,” U.S. Embassy said.
