According to the press release of the President’s office, based on the fact that the term of the Governor of the Bank of Albania expired on February 5, 2022, President Meta has closely followed the developments and procedures in the Albanian Parliament regarding the appointment of members of the BoA Supervisory Council and has decreed that Gent Sejko be proposed for re-election as Governor of the Bank of Albania.

“We appreciate the accommodating policy of the Bank of Albania to provide the necessary support for economic recovery after the subsequent shocks due to earthquake and pandemic, as well as to ease fiscal consolidation. We appreciate the role of the Bank of Albania to ensure that the financial sector remains stable and liquid.”

However, the Presidency emphasizes, amid increasing inflation due to higher food and energy prices, the Bank of Albania should continue to closely monitor inflation developments and adjust the policy stance in line with its target for maintaining price stability.
“The risk of increasing non-performing loans highlights the importance of close monitoring of the quality of banks’ loan portfolios, maintaining capital reserves and strengthening the frameworks for resolving bad loans. All actors need to make joint efforts to better monitor and manage the growing fiscal risks associated with increasing public debt and exposure to increasing the portfolio of Public Private Partnership projects,” according to the statement.
