TIRANA, April 23 /ATA/ Fier Memorial Hospital was built within the promised time frame and is expected to open its doors to the patients at the end of May. 744 doctors and nurses have expressed interest in working at this hospital, while the selected Albanian staff will be trained by the Turkish staff that will work at the new Memorial Hospital in Fier.

Rudina Degjoni, director of the Memorial Hospital of Fier, in an interview with the Albanian Telegraphic Agency, said that there is a great interest among Albanian doctors and nurses to work in this hospital.

“On Thursday we hosted the opening ceremony of this hospital within the timeframe promised by the Turkish government, which lasted about 68 days. Today we entered the second phase, which is the phase of training and selection of Albanian staff and personnel. Currently 774 nursing practitioners, doctors and support staff have applied to work here. Fier Memorial Hospital will offer all specialist services, like Mother Teresa Hospital in Tirana. It will cater to all patients in South Albania, covering the regions of Fier, Vlora and Gjirokastra. About 540 thousand citizens of the southern region will access free services at this hospital,” – she said.

According to Degjoni, “Memorial Hospital of Fier, offers all health services of tertiary level, is equipped with cutting-edge technology devices. We will provide 24/7 emergency medical services. We will provide outpatient services, surgical procedures, including thoracic surgery, general, vascular and other internal medicine services… etc. The hospital will have a complete service with diagnostics and medical equipment of modern technology, which include magnetic resonance, scanner, including angiography and for the first time we install in this hospital the new lithotripsy device, which is now only available in TUHC, ” – she said.

“The hospital is conceptualized to operate in cooperation with Turkish managers, drawing on their best expertise. They will assist Albanian managers, as well as medical and nursing staff who will acquiring the best skills from Turkish doctors and nurses,” Degjonaj said.

“The staff organizational structure has been approved, it has been thought to start out as a management between Turkish and Albanian managers, as well as Turkish and Albanian doctors and nurses. Our goal and objective is to adopt all the medical and nursing protocols of the Turkish government and to apply them in our Memorial Hospital. We will appoint the best Turkish doctors and medical science professors in charge of the hospital wards while specialist doctors will be our Albanian staff. With this structural organization, we will be able to implement medical and nursing protocols in accordance with Albanian legislation and the standards required for health services,” she said.

“Hospital autonomy in itself is applied for the first time in this hospital, and for this we need to build on the experience of all Turkish managers and medical staff who will assist us with replicating the Turkish model of tertiary system services, which involves the hospital autonomy and evaluation of the performance of medical and nursing staff. This will be something new for us. We will strive to implement their best practices in our Memorial Hospital as well. Also, doctors and nurses will be subject to scoring system and short term trainings, as the hospital will be operational by the end of May, ” – said Degjonaj.

Fier Regional Memorial Hospital has sat well with the citizens who have described it as a miracle of healthcare.
