TIRANA, September 15/ATA/ Memaliaj town is becoming a favorite destination for local and foreign visitors.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro shared today in the social media photos from tourists’ visits to Memaliaj, sent by Elton Çaushi of the “Albania Trip” tourist agency.

Kumbaro wrote that this is not the first time that this agency brings tourists to Memaliaj.

“Thank you Elton and all the guides and agencies for the fantastic work you do by introducing even the small towns on the tourist map of Albania opening up new horizons for tourism development”, wrote Kumbaro.

The most favorite spots for tourists in Memaliaj remain the rural areas such as Gllava, Lake Komari and the banks of the Vjosa River.

The Vjosa River is a symbol of Memaliaj, one of the reasons for the stay of many tourists due to its features as the last wild river of Europe or otherwise known as the “Blue Heart”. It surrounds the city of Memaliaj on three sides, creating the image of a small peninsula.

Memaliaj is an area where you can fully enjoy all 4 seasons of the year. Nature has created a diverse environment with rivers, mountains, hills and fields.

Nature and ecotourism are always good opportunities in Memaliaj experiencing a beautiful adventure while traveling in this area. Nature walks, observing flora and fauna, learning about local culture and heritage, sport fishing, cycling, bird watching, kayaking, nature walks, rafting, photo tourism, camping make up nature tourism in Memaliaj. /p.s./

Kumbaro said that with this festival, there is being created a beautiful tradition that started yesterday and will continue for five consecutive nights, with folklore groups from Albania and Kosovo.

“Memaliaj, by the Vjosa River, is no longer a shadow town by the side of the road, but a town where Memaliaj people have started to give their houses on rent for the tourists and build agri-tourism for visitors who travel throughout the region and move from one city to another, from Gjirokastra, Libohova and Dropulli, in Përmet, Këlcyre, Tepelena and now also in Memaliaj, to enjoy the best of cuisine, history, warm hospitality and incomparable nature”, said Kumbaro.

Kumbaro invited holidaymakers that if they are visiting Gjirokastra these days, in the evening they should stop at Memaliaj and enjoy the concert and feel aroma of the Vjosa. /a.f/p.s./

TIRANA, July 26/ATA/ The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, through the support of Agency for Energy Efficiency, is making major investments in 9 water supply systems in the municipalities of Tepelena and Memaliaj, in the light of supporting investments to improve energy efficiency.

The aim is to increase the quality of drinking water supply for residents of these areas, but at the same time to reduce energy consumption for these enterprises by 50%.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, together with the director of the Agency for Energy Efficiency, Eltar Deda, closely followed the implementation of project of the rehabilitation of water supply systems.

“We have implemented three elements of energy efficiency. First, power supply through photovoltaic elements. Second, the entire pump system has been changed and the new pumps have been installed according to the European Union criteria. Thirdly, the installation of the SCADA program, which will increase the efficiency of the operation of these pumps and the water supply system itself,” director Deda said.

In her remarks, Minister Balluku emphasized that, “these projects having a positive impact not only on citizens, but also on the performance of water companies will be extended to other municipalities in the country.”

“During the third mandate we will focus on the field of energy, as major projects have been drafted and expected to be implemented, such as the construction of the Skavica hydropower plant or the revitalization of the Vlora TPP, which will be converted to use natural gas as fuel for electricity generation in lieu of oil, in cooperation with the largest US companies, but on the other hand, the increase in consumption should also be accompanied by the efficiency of electricity. The increase of domestic production is very important, but also the reduction of energy consumption, implementing all energy efficiency projects,” Minister Balluku said. //a.i/
