TIRANA, Aug 24 /ATA/ – Albania’s mining sector paid over 1.8 billion lek in tax and mineral royalties in the first seven months of 2023, data from the Ministry of Finance and Economy show.

According to the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the revenues from mineral royalties decreased by 30.6% or 803 million lek less than the revenues collected during the same period of the previous year.

Economy experts say that a fall in the mineral prices and depreciation of the Euro are to blame for the decline in state budget revenues from the mineral royalties.

“Revenues from the mineral royalties amounted to 1.8 billion lek, down by 30.6% or 803 million lek less than during the same period of the previous year. The revenue collection from this tax represent 66.1% of the plan for this year,” the Ministry of Finance and Economy said.

Albanian government has scrapped the mineral royalties for a three-year period on the metal minerals group processed in the country in a bid to help processing industry develop and rationalize utilization of natural resources and curb export of cheap crude ores.
