According to the announcement of SPAK, the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime in Tirana has received the request of citizens Feruzan Durdaj and Zamira Durdaj, heirs of the victim ED, who was killed at the age of 7, demanding the beginning of legal action against Fatmir Mediu, former Minister of Defense of Albania.

Sources close to SPAK report that the review of the claims laid down in the above request, the verification of evidence, as well as the administered documentation found that there are legal grounds for reversal of the decision on Criminal College of the High Court that dropped the criminal case against the citizen, Fatmir Mediu.

SPAK has filed the request to the High Court, which in 2009 decided to quash the criminal case against Mediu on the grounds of his parliamentary immunity.

Regarding this event, the General Prosecutor’s Office started the criminal proceedings in 2008 against Fatmir Mediu in his capacity as the then Minister of Defense, as well as many other persons involved in the tragedy. At the end of the preliminary investigation, on 13.03.2009, the General Prosecutor’s Office submitted to the High Court a request for the trial of criminal case no. 3 in 2008. In this investigation, citizen Fatmir Mediu was charged with committing the criminal offense “Abuse of office” in complicity, as well as “Abuse of office” in collaboration with a military subject-part of commanding staff.
