TIRANA, Sept 27 /ATA/ – For the third consecutive year, the Bulgarian Memory Foundation, led by Dr. Milen Vrabevski, has organized and financed free medical check-ups for residents of Pustec Municipality.

The examinations, conducted by a team of Bulgarian specialists in cardiology, internal medicine, endocrinology, dermatology, and rheumatology, will continue until September 28 and aim to screen all interested residents.

This year, the initiative is again held at the request of Pustec Mayor Pali Kolefski, who seeks to provide access to specialized medical care in his region.

“I thank the foundation and personally Dr. Vrabevski for these examinations. This is another valuable and important initiative for the residents of Pustec,” said Mayor Kolefski.

Due to high demand and growing local needs, the Bulgarian Memory Foundation is planning another visit at the end of October. The upcoming team will include specialists in neurology, ENT, ophthalmology, urology, and mammography.

“Through this initiative, we continue to set an example of European solidarity. We act with open hearts. This year, young doctors of Albanian origin who graduated in Bulgaria joined our team, demonstrating continuity across generations and the benefits of collaboration with Bulgaria,” Dr. Vrabevski told the media.

The medical team comes from prominent Bulgarian hospitals and centers, including the University Hospital “St. Ivan Rilski” (Sofia), University Hospital “St. George” (Plovdiv), Heidelberg Medical Center, and Reverse Dermatology.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ivaylo Kirov, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Bulgaria to Albania.

“I thank Dr. Vrabevski for his focus on developing Pustec Municipality, and especially for the foundation’s efforts to improve the quality of life for all residents of the region,” Ambassador Kirov said.

The specialized examinations are particularly beneficial for elderly residents, representing both a gesture of empathy and a tangible medical service.

“It is a joy for us to be examined by Bulgarian doctors. Their presence here is a symbol of support that we will remember for a long time,” said 70-year-old Dimitri Nikola from the village of Vernik.

The initiative is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Health of Albania and in cooperation with Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense, which provided transport for the doctors via the military “Spartan” aircraft. Medical equipment was supplied by the Bulgarian company “Infinita.”

This edition of free preventive exams in Pustec is part of the Bulgarian Memory Foundation’s ongoing efforts in the region, which aim to improve the quality of life for local residents.

In recent years, the foundation has completed numerous projects with tangible impact, including providing an ambulance, fire truck, and off-road vehicle for municipal needs; equipping the Pustec Health Center with professional medical equipment; establishing a mobile clinic with professional medical equipment for a local village; repairing the water supply network to ensure 24-hour access in several settlements; furnishing the municipal building with office furniture and computers for 44 workstations; and installing street lighting in four villages: Zaroshkë, Gollomboc, Goricë e Madhe, and Goricë e Vogël.

Through all its donations to date, the Bulgarian Memory Foundation has become the largest foreign investor in the area.
