TIRANA July 16 /ATA/- By I. Vata/ / In the framework of official meetings in the capital cities of various EU countries, the Chief Negotiator of Albania for EU accession, Zef Mazi, was received on Friday in Prague and held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jakub Kulhánek and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for EU Issues, Aleš Chmelar.

Mazi acquainted the Czech Minister with the work of Albania to fully meet the requirements of the European Council in March 2020.

He underlined that “Albania has not only delivered on all the requirements, but it will continue to maintain the momentum in the field of reforms, which is to the benefit of the country and the Albanian people. The results are tangible, important, their record is growing exponentially and clearly to anyone.”

Chief Negotiator Mazi underlined the individual merits of the countries as the basic evaluation criterion set by the EU.

“Failure to set a date for the first Intergovernmental Conference by the European Council increases fatigue and distrust and undermines the credibility of the EU in the eyes of the people of our country and others. Albania expects the EU to take the right decisions as Albania has completed all its homework and is consistently pursuing the reforms. “Problems related to identity and nationalism among other countries should not hold Albania’s European journey back,” Mazi said.

On his part, Czech Foreign Minister Kuhlanek praised all the work done by Albania in the framework of European integration.

To Czech minister, Albania should hold as soon as possible the first Inter-Governmental Conference. The priority of Czech Republic is opening of technical talks for accession of Albania.
According to the Minister, “Albania has made sustainable reforms in justice and security. The Czech Republic will support this project and Albania can count on the Czech Republic.”

Also, Minister Kulhanek underlined that “the Czech Republic has high expectations from the Slovenian Presidency, which will prioritize the Western Balkans. The Western Balkans will also be high on the agenda of the Czech Presidency in the second half of 2022. ″

According to him, EU should take a decision on the first intergovernmental conference for Albania.

Deputy Foreign Minister for European Issues stressed that the Czech Republic will work with other countries of the Union to accelerate the enlargement process. The interlocutors agreed on all issues related to enlargement and how the progress and the necessity of moving ahead with the enlargement process is seen.

The Chief Negotiator received assurance from the Czech party that Albania can rely on the Czech Republic, and the Czech Republic has been and will be Albania’s advocate in the enlargement process.
